Okay, I'm at Kinko's trying to install a printer driver and print. They have an ethernet cable, which I've attached to my computer. Now, when I'm trying to add the printer, there is nothing telling me what port to configure the printer to (I get COM1: Communications Port; COM2: V90 modem; COM4: Infrared Serial (COM) Port; DOT4_001 (I am assuming this one is my USB); File (save to disk); LTP1: ECP Printer Port (where it wants to designate, but I get an error message telling me the printer isn't ready); and LTP3: Infrared Printer Port. I am running Win98. Oh Gods of Tech, please help!

Oh my gosh, it's been such a long time since I've used Win 98. Is the ethernet cable indicative of a networked printer?

If so, when you add the printer, I believe you have to add it as a networked printer. I totally forget how to do this in Win 98.

You need to install it as a network printer, if you are seeing those options you are trying to install it as a local printer. That won't work.

Start
Settings
Printers
Add Printers
Next in the Wizard
Then check the radio button for network printer, not local, click next
You should be asked for the printer name, if you know it (they should know it) enter it or hit browse to see any printers shared on the network. (this may take some time, be paitent)
It's possible you aren't getting the network option because the machine isn't seeing the network.

Alternatively, see if the printer has a parallel or USB port, and find an appropriate cable.
