Recalling that you have an IBM T30, that is the most current BIOS update.

But IBM is continually updating other drivers as well. You should have "Update Connector" available to you under Access IBM from your program list.

In any event, you can see all of the drivers at http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-42358

Re the other drivers/software upgrades that IBM Access will sometimes identify that you need, I would strongly suggest that "if it ain't broke don't fix it." More than once I have had downloaded "updates" for drivers/software upgrades not work and then I was left with nothing and a lot of fiddling to get back to good order (particularly with modem updates).

I partially agree. Use the matrices on the ibm website. Don't use update connector. As for the BIOS, I never intall the latest one. I usually stick with the second most recent BIOS. Almost everything else is safe, from my experience.

Ive just gotten my system board replaced (on my T30). Now, update connector doesnt seem to work.... is this related to my replacement?

I can almost guarantee that the reason it doesn't work is because when they replaced your systemboard, they didn't burn the machine type and serial number onto the mobo. Do a 'system information' (however you do it on a T) and see what it says.

The bad news is that you can't change the info yourself (for obvious reasons).

How do I know? Because it is happening to me. IBM in the US is current re-writing the program that they use to do this for the R models because the old programe doesn't support it. 5 bucks says it's the same program one would use on the T models!

Im running Nortons SI and dont seem to see the lack of this machine type and serial number. What other way can I check this?

So, IBM will have a program that will allow you to update/change the system board serial number and machine build type...?

I dont know If Im making too much of this... but, wont I encounter other problems for not having this information on my new system board...???

Im a little paranoid... http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/frown.gif

yes, mobo = motherboard.

IBM does have a program that will change the serial number and the machine type, but IBM has to do it. For security reason, they don't make it publicly available.

The only real affect is not being able to use the autoupdate from IBM, but then I've never used it anyway.

BUT, if you ever travel and they want to check your computer out, and find that the serial number is AB1234 or something like that, I just wonder what they'll do.

Get 'em to fix it. Easiest thing.
