I am not a computer nerd guy. My reasons are that I actually think a lot of the features might be better for me. ScottC Oct 10, 03, 7:38 pm I have SUSE on my laptop as my secondary OS, and only because it's much easier to test stuff I code when on the road (it runs Apache, MySQL etc...) and yes, I know there are Windows versions. GadgetFreak Oct 10, 03, 11:26 pm I have a Sony Viao and an IBM Thinkpad that both dual boot with RedHat as a second OS. More recently, I have started using a G4 Powerbook which has MacOSX as the OS. It lets you run a KDE X11 environment and gets pretty close to Linux/Unix although I have found a few things that seem to be a bit problematic to port from a standard Linux OS. What I love about the Mac is that I can us KDE and move the cursor to the Mac toolbar and bring up an MS office application. I would love to have run Linux all the time in the PCs but I found the Linux office-type products to be unbearable. winkydink Oct 11, 03, 10:39 pm I'll chime in on the dual boot option as well (XP & RH 8.0 here). Much more flexible IMHO than just having one or the other installed. gunnar Oct 12, 03, 4:12 pm I have a ThinkPad with Linux (RH9) and XP installed. I use Linux almost exclusively. However, I actually use XP more often when travelling than when at home. The network config tools in XP are just a little bit more polished and flexible than in RH9, so I sometimes find it easier to use XP when logging in at airports, hotels etc. If you have more specific question, feel free to ask. |
