Currently I'm in HKG but will be going to Nagoya (only) for the F1 race in a couple weeks.

I would like to get a digital camera b/f the race. I'm thinking of getting a Canon S50.

My question are
(1) Where should I buy it: Nagoya or HKG. If I save US$20 bucks forget it, but if more maybe worth it.
(2) Will I find better (newer) cameras if I shop in Nagoya. I need to make this a quick purchase, I'm not there to shop.
(3) Is the S50 good, I'm looking for good quality and small size?

FT'ers have been very helpful in the past. Could use some Techie insight here.

You may find the S50 for a little less than you can in the US, but u will likely end up with no warranty in the states.

We vacationed in Tokyo this past spring and priced out a number of different cameras and found that they are often MORE EXPENSIVE in Japan than in the US.

I would only buy something I CANNOT find in the states.

If I want cheap electronics goods, I fly over the USA. You already have some of the best prices on the planet for things like Digital Cameras and Laptops so the best you can hope for is tax free shopping from a place where the prices are similar. Japan is not one of those places.

I had a wonder round Akihabara (Tokyo's electronics city) and was well impressed by the quality and quantity of high tech goods, but not the prices they were asking for them.

Edited for bad English.

Edited again to correct a Japanese place name.

Edited again to add an opening bracket. What is wrong with my English today?

Neither.

Ebay or Yahoo. The best prices I've found have always been in New York City.

Absolutely. Prices in NYC are lower on this stuff than anywhere. Try Adorama or B & H PhotoVideo on the web. J and R will probably be okay too but not as big a selection as the real hardcore discount camera places like Adorama and B&H.
