America West FlightFund (Pre-2005 US Airways merger) - 4,500 orphan FlightFund miles - what to do?

Hi all,

Just got my FlightFund statement and realized that I have about 4,500 orphan FF miles (should've used my CO OnePass number for those flights, oh well).

Anyway, any ideas on (1) how to burn the miles, or (2) how to pick up 15,500 miles on HP?

I could do the Visa for 5000, the debit card for 2500, and I guess savings bonds for 8000, but I'm not sure if it's really worth the effort for a free ticket on HP.

That's alot of Magazines (One flight is of no value), any other exits to the program ?

Or should I just take the 1,580 Continental points while I can ?

One note of advise. Don't let the miles expire due to account inactivity. I did and I lost about 3,000 miles that I wish I had converted to magazines.

I asked HP to reinstate the miles. They said no and they weren't very nice.

I told them I didn't receive a mailing that my miles would be permanently removed due to inactivity. They said that I either didn't bother to open such a letter or that I threw it away without acting. I found it interesting that those were the only two possibilities offered by the representative.

It wasn't my first negative experience with HP.

I think that your calculations are a bit off. Unlike CO who only award elite bonuses on actualy flight miles, HP awards elite bonus based on minimum miles. So, instead of 580 bonus miles, you would actually get 1250. Still not enough for an award of any kind, but would bring you a little closer to an award...
