The Press Release says the unit is scheduled to begin shipping in Q3 (Jul/Aug/Sep), 2002. It might not be available yet.

It's not shipping yet, if you want a tri-band Nokia go for the 6310i, it has Bluetooth, GPRS and MicroJava.

But my best advice is to skip Nokia and buy the SonyEricsson T68i, it's muuuuuch better and doesn't suffer from the usual software and hardware glitches Nokia's always have.

I played with a pre-release 6610 last week, and was not impressed. The UI is clunky and unrefined compared to a T68i. The Java didn't work, and WAP was very very slow.

This wasn't a release version of the firmware, but traditionally Nokias (and Ericssons) are buggy as all hell the first six months out of the gate.

ScottC's right...buy a T68i.

interesting comments, thanks all. as a longtime nokia user, i've tested a friend's T68, tried very much to like it, but just can't relate to the ericsson UI. just personal preference, that's all.

I'm with milehighj in that the Nokia interface is just *easier*, and am also looking out for the 6610 - anyone got one, and can offer any feedback ?

I played with it and the new 7210, the new colour interface is fun and the quality of the screen is somewhat better then the Ericsson T68(i).

Uh-oh, is he considering leaving the Swedish-Japanese team for the Finnish-San Diego team?

The P800 is a SE phone. This means that the first year's worth of release dates are lies, the second are optimistic miscalculations.

They're revised the release date yet again to Q1/2003, with a few early units to show up in Europe late this year. This could happen since there have been a few pre-release units in the wild over the last month. But I doubt it.

The first six months' worth of firmware will be very buggy, and slow. I say this based on experience with a long line of SE phones: CF888, I888, T28W, R380W, R520, T39, T68m, T68i. They will eventually get it figured out but those who buy the first units will be horribly disappointed.

I, of course, will be among them.
