Swiss International Airlines - LX: LHR-EZE decision time looms - which FFP?

... if any.

Has anybody flown since 1.1.03 and earned miles? We are travelling soon and I would value the latest news.

New STC t+c's say no mileage on DMFUK fare basis. Is this the case?

Will we earn LX e-checkin bonuses?

Will AA award miles on these tickets? Or QF?Or ... ?

Thanks very much for advice.

Just flew last weekend LHR-EZE on the DMFUK fare. I credited the miles to AA and they posted within two days. EZE was great as usual. LX was good too but hose MD-11's are really getting tired. On the return from EZE the lights in the toilets didn't work so it was quite challenging to use them. Then when we got to GRU we had a nice 5 hour delay while they tried to fix it. The previous trip resulted in an 11 hour delay.
Can't wait for them to get the A-340s. But will they have another DMFUK fare so we can check those new planes out.

Too bad the miles don't count as base miles in the AA program. And AA only gives you 25% class bonus for C. I will have the miles for my flight credited to STC. If they refuse, I will credit them to my AA account and move my business...

I spoke to STC.

They told me that miles would post as clubmiles to my STC account. The lady was aware of the DMFUK fare basis. We shall see.

She was less sure whether AA would post my wife's miles but in view of MileTex's experience, this at least should be OK.

A few years ago my cousin flew on a SR MD-11 to BA from Zurich. They were delayed for 12 hours and then just as they were landing in Sao Paulo they were told that the flight would not continue on to BA because of the long delay. That meant spending the night in a hotel and continuing the next day on a local carrier.

Just for the record, I noted MileTex's experience and used my AA number, and the outbound flights posted quickly. Just back (yesterday) so too soon to see if the return flights have posted.

I thought long and hard about this. Given that the STC t+c's say no miles for DMFUK fares, I suppose it was a no-brainer. But I also thought about longer term use of STC and its competitors.

STC has an expiring miles policy. This really belongs in the ark. Except for high status members, you lose miles after three years - their life does not get extended with further use as in the majority of FF plans. Also, I am unhappy about the recent increases in award mileage.

Of course, there must be doubt as to the value of crediting my AA account. Who would bet which of AA and LX will last longer http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif?

I don't understand what the danger of trying to have the miles credited to STC would be. If it doesn't work, I could just send the boarding passes to AA, right ?

True, except that the boarding pass has the FF number printed on it and it might be difficult to persuade another airline that you haven't already had credit (and if you haven't, why not).

Roger,

Was it an e-ticket or did you also have the problems everyone else had?

I have been credited these flights and points beginning of Feb 2003 on Swiss Travel Club.

LX94 D Zurich-Buenos Aires 10 547 *
LX325 D London-Zurich 2 000 *

But I have still not got any e-ticket or booking bonus.

Jeremiah: we had e-tickets. No real problems, except:

- a long time for the ticket to be issued after booking;

- at check-in at LHR, the agent could not give us a boarding pass for ZRH-EZE at first. After several trips to the office, he was able to resolve the problem. Somewhat unnerving at the time!

Also, I changed my FF number from LX to AA at LHR check-in. At first the agent said it was impossible. But it worked - he said it was the first time it had worked in two years!

AHO: congratulations! (So much for t+c's.)

Thanks, AHO. In this case, I guess the matter is settled for now...
