America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - JFK/PHX prices insane

Just tried to find a reasonable price for rt NY-PHX in August or July. Now that is definitely off season because it is sooooo hot there at that time. But the airfare is so high, from $440.pp to 590.pp. Can anyone explain this?

I chose August 1 thru August 10 (as random dates) and Travelocity shows HP NYC-PHX starting at $374 r/t. There are departures from EWR and JFK within a few dollars of each other.

I agree that seems high. In comparision the same dates reveal gobs of options out of LGA or JFK for $250 r/t on NW.

There are several ways around this, but perhaps my favorite is to purchase a roundtrip to LAS and then a second roundtrip from LAS-PHX.

That ticket to/from LAS combined with another ticket to/from your destination will save you $$$$$ if you don't want a Saturday night stay too. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

unless you have Elite status and are looking for an upgrade, consider Northwest... they have a $238 r/t fare and you can credit your mileage to FlightFund if you want...

wow, there are no minimum stay requirements, nor a saturday stay requirements... very odd for a deep discount transcontinental flight...

you could turn this into a decent mileage run if you're interested...

Hi: I want to thank you all. For one thing, I didn't want to use a website because I have a discount coupon that can't be used on the web. Secondly, I am very grateful because I did find that cheap northwest fare and with the 15% discount from the entertainment book it would cost be less than $500. for two of us.
