America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - 2 questions from a wanderer from the UA Board

I usually hang out at the UA forum, but may be doing more HP flights. Two questions:

1. Will HP comp status based on UA 1K? Anyone have the info, if so, about where to fax the request?

2. Can one's HP flights be credited to a NW ff acct? How about AS?

Thanks. I did a search but couldn't find either.

America West offers an Elite Match Program. Call FlightFund for details at 800.247.5691.

HP flights may be credited to NW.
HP flights may not be credited to AS.

Absolutely. HP is one of the few airlines that will comp to their highest status. I received my Platinum card yesterday.

Kinda waters down the benefits of being a PLAT. Too bad I earned mine the hard way last year by flying over 125k miles. I really wish they would not comp PLAT - I also am not too thrilled about them extending status either. Free upgrades between PHX and EWR are getting harder and harder to come by.

Me too FlyinMike!!!

But remember they do factor in YTD miles ( or so they told me), when they do the upgrade order

just like United does...

welcome Chuck :-)

I now have 5 America West RTs in the next several weeks -- to TUS, PHX, SNA and ORD.

My 6000 YTD miles didn't help last night. Got to ride in the back on the 6hour flight home from EWR - we had 150kt headwinds the whole way. Man did that suck! Of course, no one got a free upgrade at least I snagged 10F and had lots of legroom.

Based on an e-mail I sent to Customer Care, America West issued me this invitation. See below for info on who to contact, etc.

"We would like to invite you to be considered for Elite status with our FlightFund program. All you need to do is fax a note with your request to be considered for Elite status in the America West FlightFund program. They
will need a copy of your Delta Gold card and your America West FlightFund number. Please fax this information to: Attn: Nancy Richards at 480-693-8023. It will take approximately 2 weeks for a response."

well, so far i was able to be comp'd to plat based on my ua status and upgraded on my flight on sunday. it was wide open, so there was no problem.

the ug was not automatic. probably because i was a general member when i made the reservation.

Hey Gary, I don't appreciate my own neighbor trying to muscle in on my personal claim as the official greeter of UA to HP converts! I AM the original basher-turned-convert-through-a-platinum-comp-and-signed-up-for-the-corporate-AWArds-program.
- Do you have your own corporate account with HP Gary?
- Have you given out Above & Beyond certs to the counter agents at SMF?
- Godiva boxes at Christmas?
I THINK NOT!!!

Hey, I'll see you at the coffee shop or dinner http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Ken: I actually haven't taken any of my HP trips yet -- I have 2 in February, though.

No, I haven't used my "Above and Beyond" certificates -- and I still don't understand why United hasn't used those in a few years.

As to gifts for the checkin people, I am shameless :-) and I am sure it would be a great way to introduce myself to the counter folks in SMF. Heck, I know I've spoiled the UA people -- even brought them a battery operated stapler a few weeks ago.

well, i had my 2 flights last night on HP, ONT-LAS-MCO.

from ont-las there were 50 or so people. F was supposed to be full, and one guy tried to ug, but he was turned away on it. actually, he didnt know a whole lot about the process or even his ff number. i am glad i got a pre-flight drink, no service was offered, even in first for the 40 min. flight. there were 7 in first, the seat next to me ended up being empty.

the airport in las was my first visit there. what was curious there was the signs saying it was a non-smoking airport when at the same time the smoking areas were very open and the entire airport smelled like a smoking section.

my flight was scheduled out of a15 and i had about an hour, so i started walking around taking a look at the terminal. by the time i got back to a15, the flight had been moved to a3. by that time it was a total zoo. the flight was over sold and people where having loud arguments with the g/a's over seat assignements and bumps. a few people offered to give up their seats and were told there would be no such offering.

at boarding time, the 3 wheel chairs were boarded and first was called right away. i walked up...

special note here, if this were a ua flight 120 of the 126 people would have crowded around the door when it was opened for boarding. credit to hp, no one even moved a muscle in ont or las to rush the door.

...i boarded and was promptly asked what i wanted to drink. i ordered a red wine which was never delivered. the boarding process was very slow and in the end there was 1 open seat.

doors closed and we pushed off, taxied out and sat, and sat, and sat. the pilot comes on a says we need to deplane a passenger and will return to b17. we taxi back up to the gate, the seatbelt sign goes off, the doors open and a c/s agent comes on very confused. his paperwork turns out to be for a different flight. someone did get off. the doors close, the f/a's arm the doors and it looks like we will leave. then.....

a knock on the door for the ramp driver. the f/a starts to open the armed door! Yikes! she realized the mistake and shut the door. the slide didnt blow. in the end we were 30 mins late to orlando. no food or service on the flight even in first.

not a good trip report...

Is this typical of their service?

fparker -- how many more HP flights have you booked?

Food was "temporarily suspended" to "expedite the boarding process" after you know when. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

one thing i left off. 2 of the 3 people that needed wheelchairs were in F.

on arrival, one of them pushed me out of the way to get off the plane and then clogged the jetway trying to get into her wheelchair! i figured she didnt need it after the linebacker tackle she did on me!
