America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Why is America West called HP?

I know that HP is the 2 letter symbol, but why did they pick HP when there is neither H or P in America West?

Why HP? Well, for starters, AW was already assigned. HP was chosen to represent hub Phoenix. For radio communication, America West is referred to as "Cactus."

I always thought Happy People was good, and wouldn't HelP be appropriate at the moment.

I always thought HP = Hurt and Pain, two sensations inevitably felt when flying America West. Which also explains why it's called "Cactus" -- whether it's a cactus or an HP plane, get too close to either one and you will suffer.
