NAIROBI (AP)--Kenya Airways (O.KAW) fired 32 employees after an internal investigation turned up evidence of drug smuggling by crew members and other staff, a company official said Thursday.

Flight attendants and airline employees who handle crews' schedules were among those fired, airline spokeswoman Catherine Mwangi said.

"The investigations have been on for awhile," she told The Associated Press.

The terminations come less than two weeks after a group of Kenya Airlines crew members published an open letter to the company's management warning of "known drug traffickers" working for the airline.

Over the past year, several Kenya Airways employees have been arrested and charged in with smuggling heroin and other drugs.
