Thanks for your help! hauteboy Feb 6, 04, 9:51 pm You can earn miles on Delta with China Southern, but for international flights only. American codeshares with China Eastern (but can only earn miles on the codeshare). Northwest may still codeshare with Air China, but otherwise there aren't any options for earning miles on domestic China flights. moondog Feb 6, 04, 10:51 pm Originally posted by hauteboy: Northwest may still codeshare with Air China, but otherwise there aren't any options for earning miles on domestic China flights. Nope, not since UA snagged CA. If and when CA joins *A, there's hope that we'll be able to earn miles for domestic flights in *A programs. In the meantime, consider yourself blessed for being able to pick flights based entirely on old-fashioned considerations (price, schedule, type of plane, etc) wthout a guilty conscience. (One could argue that MU-->AsiaMiles is useful, but the combination of 50% accrual and outrageously priced awards is a bit of a turn-off for me). BlondeBomber Feb 7, 04, 1:20 am I credit my miles on Air China domestic (the few allowed anyway, e.g. BJS-PVG) and sort-of domestic HKG-BJS to Lufthansa Miles and More. I also just joined Air China Club and Hainan Airlines programs since you never know if and when you will fly them enough to actually earn enough points for a ticket. SPN Lifer Mar 15, 04, 6:40 pm American FF credit on KA, CA, CZ, or MU?It's always helpful to be able to correlate the abbreviations with the respective codes: Dragonair, Air China, China Southern, and China Eastern. Especially for people like me who have never flown any of them. :) SPN Lifer Jul 12, 04, 8:29 pm As reported above, a China Eastern (MU) flight can earn AA miles only if it's a codeshare. MU began service to Saipan on Saturday, 10 July 2004, according to the Monday, 12 July 2004 Marianas Variety.China Eastern Airlines marked its maiden Shanghai-Saipan voyage by flying to the island more than 260 passengers Saturday. As this developed, Continental Micronesia said it has no plans of abandoning its direct Guam-Saipan service, despite the launch of its Guam-Rota service through a partnership with Cape Air, Commonwealth Ports Authority executive director Carlos Salas told Variety yesterday. Early morning on Saturday, China Eastern’s Airbus 330 touched down at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport to begin its twice weekly Shanghai-Saipan service. The CNMI government is hopeful that the newest direct flight of China Eastern will help save the volatile travel market, the islands’ major economic source. Salas said China Eastern’s Shanghai-Saipan service will run only until September but there are plans to resume it from November until March 2005 – the period when outbound travel from China is projected to peak. This is the sixth direct flight to service the CNMI, and the second for the CNMI-China route. China Southern Airlines also flies to the islands through a chartered service from Guangzhou. While the new flight service will only be for three months, it will bring a “positive development” to the CNMI economy. Salas cited an estimated 5,000 additional Chinese travelers into the CNMI from July to September. “The potential for the Chinese market is already there. Whether it is going to be stable or not, that is a job now and a challenge for this government to make sure that we maintain this flight in the future,” said Salas. He said travel agents must be given the needed support to “make sure to continue to create the demand” to travel to the islands. The administration, which has been working for the flight services since 2002, can “only hope for more travelers.” With two flights a week at a 90 percent passenger load, CPA projected that China Eastern can bring in as many as 484 passengers or over 5,800 in three months from Shanghai. Although the CNMI’s arrival figures slowly registered a steady increase from the pre-2001 level, it still lags behind the numbers achieved prior to the Asian crisis. Last year, some 400,000 visited the islands.Unless one will be flying China Eastern (MU) a lot, perhaps it's better to just give in and accept the 50% on Asia Miles. Or Saipan (Tinian, in the future) residents could try to fly China Southern (CZ) to Guangzhou for the "easy" DL miles, if the flights develop beyond charter flights. SPN Lifer Jun 24, 07, 7:30 pm So far, the flights from China to SPN have been operated as charters. But there is hope things may change. See Agnes E. Donato, "Air China seeks fed OK on Beijing flights," Saipan Tribune, Mon. June 25, 2007 (application filed by Air China [CA] with U.S. DoT on May 31, 2007 for twice weekly nonstops beginning July 15, 2007). http://www.saipantribune.com/newsstory.aspx?cat=1&newsID=69782 SPN Lifer Sep 21, 07, 3:10 am The Sky Pearl Club frequent flyer program of China Southern (CZ) has reciprocity with OnePass of Continental (CO) as of September 2007. See New Codeshare Partner: China Southern (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=705198) (CO forum). It will be nice when CZ joins SkyTeam, and has lounge reciprocity for SkyTeam Elite Plus participants (but not Presidents Club members), as per the June press release in the linked thread. Does anyone know in what cities are the CZ lounges? fly2w Sep 23, 07, 11:18 am On which American airlines if any can I post MU (China Eastern) miles? gemini573 Sep 23, 07, 4:46 pm On which American airlines if any can I post MU (China Eastern) miles?
