America West FlightFund (Discontinued Program) - Combining HP status with earning CO miles?

I’m working in PHX for the next year, so am planning on using my UA 1K status as currency to get comped to Platinum on HP and/or CO.

My preference is to earn CO miles, but I don’t like only getting upgraded 2 hours before departure if I’m on a HP flight (which is what the majority of mine will be). So, what I’d like to do is use my (anticipated) FlightFund Plat status to get upgraded on my HP flights. But then, when taking the flight, give them my OnePass # to get the miles on CO.

According to the 2 different FlightFund CSR I just spoke with on the phone, that should be no problem. Does anyone have any experience with that? Any pitfalls or things to watch out for?

Here's what should work.
Get the HP and CO comp
When you make the HP reservation, have them use your flightfund number.
When you check in, have them change it to your OnePass number.
I wasn't doing exactly what you're talking about, but had status on HP and CO. When wanting to use an HP upgrade cert, I'd give my HP number during the reservation number. Then, when I checked in, I'd would innocently ask "is my OnePass number in there?" They always changed it with no problems.

Please note that I am not approving or disapproving of bokich's methods, just answering a question.

p.s. You may want to post a like to this one in the CO forum.

Your plan should work, although you wn't be able to requalify for elite on HP, since your miles will be going to CO.

bokich,

As a CO Silver Elite, out of eight segments so far in '01 between DEN-PHX and SJC or SNA, I have been upgraded seven times within the two hour window. To be honest, I have had better luck this year with the two hour requirement than I have the previous two years. My travel is usually on Tues and Fri.

If you would rather have CO miles, I recommend going there for at least the time being.
