If posts were limited to just one per day, wouldn't folks be extremely judicious concerning how they use 'em? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Scotty, us newbies are getting 'broken in'. We have just gained access to the TalkBoard forums and have started to do some brainstorming and email exchanges with how/what/how/when and other issues. I assure you that El Presidente and Randy are keeping us busy.

"What now?"

My first thing is to learn and listen. To find out what's already been in the works, and to find out what Randy's needs are.

I didn't promise free miles during the campaign (well, at least not publicly http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif), so I'm not going to guarantee instant results now.

But I'll be trolling the suggestions forum and the TalkBoard issues forum and doing what I can to represent the membership in discussions with Randy & Co.

Best,
Gary

I'm sure impressed everyone is so fired-up and positive. Go team!

Talk Bored in many ways reflects John Garner's reflections on the vice-presidency. Nevertheless, it is what we have.

Given that, may I humbly suggest that the new inductees pay attention to the fact that our community is self-selected, and self-unselected, and that a substantial number (not including moi) voted for decidedly incorrect candidates. The tension which provides the basis for the community may be partially based on that constituency -- are you paying attention? I hope so....

gleff, my friend:

I'm not sure what is consternating.

Our community is self-selected, and versa. No?

604 members of our community voted for avek, who ran a decidedly anti-powers-that-be campaign. Is that where we disagree?

Those members of our community who so voted are staunch participants as registered by their votes. Even though their candidate was not elected, it would be useful if the rest of us noticed that the membership of our self-selected community included those folks.

I think that will improve our community, even if the TalkBoard has hardly an authority.

Still worth a questioning frown? I will try to be even more explicit.

It was the "confused face" because (as I previously replied by email) I just didn't understand what you meant in your earlier post. Now it's clearer.

FWIW I actually never realized that the face was frowning when it had the question marks on top of it!

I certainly hope your new Talk Board has a very tough skin. They'll need it based on the 'attitudes' that are still to be found on these boards.

As for voting 'anti-establishment', excuse me Lex (since I like you), but http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

The first Talk Board has a gadfly. That created all kinds of problems. (edit)

The first Talk Board has a gadfly

From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913): A fly of various species, of the family Tabanid[ae], noted for buzzing about animals, and tormenting them by sucking their blood; -- called also horsefly, and gadfly. They are among the largest of two-winged or dipterous insects. The name is also given to different species of botflies. [Written also breese and brize.]
-----------------
From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913): Any dipterous insect of the genus Oestrus, and allied genera of botflies. Note: The sheep gadfly (Oestrus ovis) deposits its young in the nostrils of sheep, and the larv[ae] develop in the frontal sinuses. The common species which infests cattle (Hypoderma bovis) deposits its eggs upon or in the skin where the larv[ae] or bots live and produce sores called wormels. The gadflies of the horse produce the intestinal parasites called bots. See Botfly, and Bots. The true horseflies are often erroneously called gadflies, and the true gadflies are sometimes incorrectly called breeze flies.
Gadfly petrel (Zo["o]l.), one of several small petrels of the genus Oestrelata.
-----------------
From WordNet (r) 1.7:
gadfly n 1: a persistently annoying person [syn: pest, blighter, cuss, pesterer]
2: any of various large flies that annoy livestock

I don't think that I (or anybody else having left TalkBoard since the beginning), should be called by you, or anyone else here, as a a "persistently annoying person [syn: pest, blighter, cuss, pesterer]". http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

(edited immediately to only correct UBB-code mistakes).

OK, consider this an edit. Maybe I can substitute with this (for clarification):

There was a young person on Talk Board that , how shall I say this, was controversial. Let's leave it at that.

AFAIK every person putting themselves forward for election to anything needs to have a tough skin. Or they simply should not contemplate the job.

"If you can't stand the heat don't go into the kitchen" etc. etc.

Whether you are talking Mayor, PTA, Rotary, Cheerleader, or Elk Lodge. Or TalkBoard.

If the current TalkBoard manages to achieve results folks can see in the next 2 years (other than the non motile smileys of course) it may not be a pre-requisite anyway.

Unlike many, I strongly disbelieve in hiding information.

It is GoldLust you are all talking about, right?

We are a better community airing the laundry, is my opinion. Keeps us all on our toes. Keeps the laundry clean, too.

Why is it so important to dig around in the forensic evidence? Its in the past... just forget it. Also, to those that were on TB and left (of your own choosing), is it really productive to get all sensitive about the issue and...? If you left, then live with it... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
