Was just curious about some of your opinions. I'm flying LAX to LAS Dec. 9 for a 1 night stay with some. Do I pay $90 to fly on National (with my buds)and receive no miles, or pay $115 to fly on America West where I have a mileage account. Is it worth paying $25 more for 464 air miles PLUS the current 2000 promitional bonus miles for online booking? (Miles are more important than sitting next to my friends on an airplane! I'll sit next to them more than enough at the tables).

What a silly question!!! If you aren't in it for the miles, what are you doing here in FlyerTalk??? If you had any sense you'd be trying to work out blowing your money on a LAX-PHX-CMH-LAS mileage run routing instead of hanging out at the tables with a bunch of loser "friends". http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

There is, at least, a little hope for you, you had enough good sense to ask. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

p.s. Welcome to FlyerTalk California Mike!

Haha. Thanks for the great response. I'm sure in the back of my mind I knew I'd be booking the America West flight for the miles but I just needed some fellow reassurance that I wasn't nuts. Hmmm...trying to work out a separete ticket through Phoenix for an additional few thousand bonus miles.

BTW, you'll get 500 miles a segment, plus bonuses. That's more than 494.

If you think you're nuts, you've come to the right place. "One of us. One of us." I leave for TUS-PHX-LAS-SJC-PHX-TUS this weekend. Have to be back or else I'd hit LAS on the way home, too.

BTW, I live in the PHX area, not TUS.

To answer the question posts in the topic line, it's ALWAYS worth the mileage.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, California Mike! America West offers 500 FlightFund miles minimum per segment that count toward elite status, rather than just the actual miles flown. The West Coast Promotion is one of the best I've seen. Those 2,000 bonus miles each segment count toward elite status!

Happy travels!

You really are nuts!, to risk your life on the I-10 freeway between Phoenix and Tucson just to fly back to PHX for miles, man I wouldn't cross that road. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

So close to elite status. Need the miles. And my wife is farther away, so she really needs them. I'll have to send her on a mileage run so she makes elite, but I think I'll disguise it as a birthday getaway to the beach. Miami Beach, that is.

After all, I can't make elite and her not. That practically devalues my elite status since at least 50% of our travels are together!

"Need the miles" greedy! "I'll have to send her on a mileage run so she makes elite, but I think I'll disguise it as a birthday getaway" deceptive too!

Thanks for the endorsement, snake! It's not deception, it's ... marketing.
