It looks like 4 weekend trips to Europe at the cheap fares will make it for you. Good luck. I'm going to go for it next year.

Actually, do

LAX-JFK-NRT-BKK/SIN/HKG-NRT-JFK-NRT-BKK/HKG/SIN-LAX for about 43,000 (BKK) SIN would be a little more. This can be done for under $2000 and can take as little as 7 days.

Check on Coupon Connection for the guy with the VIP's for trade. You're going to need them.

I am a total newbie. I want to do this route. How do I book it? I cannot price this out on AA.com, even nesting the Asia trips inside LAX/JFK. Anyone else up for this MR?

Although I've been PLT for the past 3 years (and have requalified for 2004 with 57K), what monumental advantages are there to EXP to make you want to do 43K in MR in the next 6 weeks? I would be in the same place (miles wise) and can't see how this would be beneficial.

I would not try to do 43K miles in 6 weeks either, but if you were close, the difference is 16 VIP0*s. If you use all of them in the next 14 or so months, and on fully international routes and you would like to be in J, and you want to do it on cheap, you are talking about a saving of 400K miles in upgrades(16 x 25K). Another difference is the EXP desk. I'm new to EXP but it has been a whole different world on the phone.

Why would you almost try to double your yearly mileage in 6 weeks with pure mileage runs ? 57.000 miles in 10.5 months is exactly PLT flying, not even close to EXP.

You are easily loooking at 2500-3000 dollars minimum (hotels/transfers/tickets..), plus a weeks worth of vacation.

I should have added to my previous post that I fully agree with JohnG's reasoning. 43,000 in one and one-half months is probably too much to attempt, unless you have nothing else to do and money that you are willing to throw away, especially given the fact that you can not always count on the better deals to fall your way. The recovery time from that much flying can be as much as the time on the plane, for many.

With that said, check out the web fare JFK-NRT at $409 for T-giving weekend. You can not do this back to back at that fare, but at least one is cheap. Good luck and remember , there is always next year. 8333 miles/month is all it takes.
