I'm stuck in Charlotte waiting for my flight and thought I'd see what little tips us travelers have for each other. I'll start off with this minor, but very important tip:

If you are travelling in the a.m. and are served breakfast with one of the items being yogurt, always open the container away from you. If not, you should be prepared to wear your breakfast to where ever you are going.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Independence Day. Let's not overlook everything that has happened and has been done to make this a great country.

Have fun...dingo.

I'm sorry about your delay, but more on the yogurt. When flying in the am and served yogurt or OJ in a sealed cup, I always make a small puncture on one end of the foil with a fork/knife and then open it to avoid the splashing of the contents.

This tip works for those little containers of salsa that HP hands out in coach as well!

Okay here is a stupid tip. As I am tall I sometimes bump my head boarding a plane. (why this never happens deplaning must be a mr wizard question). Anyway, hold your hand up and place on top of door frame, as you enter, and you will not bang your head.

Cigarman,

Any idea whether the tip works for doors in stationary buildings? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Not true, ozstamps...they still serve salad dressing in those foil covered cups in FC on many airlines.

Poking a small hole before you open it is wise. I speak from experience http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

On QF today I got served youghurt in biz and it was one of those that ends up on your shirt or jacket but LUCKILY Qantas has appropriate sized napkins http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif which saved my shirt. I guess if we want to be able to eat safe and clean food then it needs to be hermetically sealed and if it pops then better use a napkin or turn it away from yourself.

Airline napkins have a hole - us it to protect your shirt/tie!

Quantas also has really clever salad dressing containers that you squeeze while the top is pointing down toward your salad. A pointy bump in the middle opens up and the dressing goes where it's supposed to. Wonder why nobody else (AFAIK) has picked up on that idea? Maybe the upside-down part only works south of the equator? (I know QF flies north of there too, I just happen never to have had salad with them north of the line.)

Breakfast should be eaten at home with the someone special.

Stupid Travel Tip:

Never eat Yogurt, you know what it is?? When this country was founded, the framers of the Constitution were smart enough to leave Yogurt out of it!

They did, however, refer (in the preamble) to insuring domestic tranquility. I think eating breakfast with the S.S. does a lot for that. I don't think they cared much what the menu is, though my S.S. likes fruit with vanilla yogurt on top. Even if I didn't like the menu, the company would be worth it.

OMNI...

Efrem we also get Tomato Sauce (Ketchup) in those little containers. Most places around Australia that sell pies (little single person pastry pies with usually plain meat in them - nothing like it in the US, closest thing probebly those hot pot things) sell their tomato sauce like that. It's a convenient way to sell individual portions and, like you said, the contents are more likely to go where they need.

mmmmmm.... QF's vinagrette http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif yum

Oh and it QANTAS!!!!! NO U!!!!!!

Once in FC on United domestic, they served the salad dressing in those little foil-covered plastic cups, and the F/A opened it for me in the galley! I'll bet he had a lot of salad dressing on his apron after that.

Especially on early 6am flights, don't drink tomato(e) juice (or open a fresh can) while wearing a white dress shirt. Also watch out if you have a moustache, as the juice may drip from said moustache to said dress shirt. Beware of the sleeper next to you with a drink on their tray, as they jerk awake and scatter glass & contents all over.

bers,

Next time I go to Australia I'll have to stay for more than two and a half hours. With a short stay you miss out on all sorts of valuable cultural experiences like that, though I did get a Perth T-shirt to prove I'd been there and a bar of eucalyptus-and-honey soap for the S.S. who likes yogurt on fruit. (She also likes nice soaps, though as far as I've noticed not for breakfast - on fruit or otherwise.)

"Someone Special." Not original with me - I picked it up from the post by ranles about 8 up from here to which I was originally replying. I usually use "Significant Other" (could be abbreviated S.O.) or, in my case, "the GF."

OK, here's mine:

When you are in a first class aisle seat sipping your drink while everyone else boards the plane, hold the cup in the hand away from the isle, that is, your window-side hand.

When you get bumped by the boarding pax, you won't end up wearing your drink.

'Evening, all. I just wanted to post a quick note to ozstamps: Hey, I'm sorry I missed your question back on the 7th. Somehow I skipped right over it the next day as I continued reading the replies. Anyway, I didn't mean to ignore the post. And thanks, flyguy for answering the question.

Wouldn't want anyone to think a guy from Niceville was being rude... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

In order to keep ketchup, yogurt, and the notorious honey french dressing of your shirts, do what I do. Take them off. You can always use the napkin to wipe off your chest.
