MilesBuzz! - Advice needed - redeeming AMEX miles for HNL trips

Have over 77,000 AMEX miles doing nothing for me right now. Plan to use them for continental US-HNL RTs in mid-August, but am concerned about the routing I'd like. Sure would appreciate advice on if it's possible to do routing like SEA-SFO-HNL-LAX, or SEA-SFO-HNL-ORD-YYG? Essentially my question is can you start in 1 city, go to HNL, and come back to another city on free trips? Also, would DL or another airline be the best for such a trip given the routing desired? Thanks lots!!

Wanderer .. why don't you give me the 77,000 points, and I'll buy you the ticket! Very happy to do so. If you go United you can go via LAX or SFO or both. Your choice. Altho why you would not go direct SEA-HNL on NW surprises me. e-mail me!
PS .. you posted TWICE .. you might care to delete/edit one down to "."

Your best bet is to put the miles in DL, then you can redeem them for a ticket on either DL or UA to Hawaii ...

Mid-August? That's really, really short notice for such a popular destination. I'd immediately start calling every airline where you can possibly transfer Amex points to check for coach availability; the line you fly probably will be determined whether you can get any seat at all, not by the best routing. When I was checking mainland to Hawaii availability in early June, UA (for example) was sold out in coach through late in the year, though AA had some coach seats left for mid-summer.
I learned some interesting things trying to plan my own Hawaii reward trip. I've been meaning to write a post about them. Maybe this will spur me to do so.
Good luck!

Wanderer,
God luck on getting a ticket. If you do, however, and want to go to another island, I have a companion flys free for interisland travel. The fare you pay is about 175 but it will cover both of you. It expires 09/30/00. Just email me if you want it. I also posted this on the coupon connenction board so I cant promise you it will still be there.

Thanks to everyone who responded...and just to complete this saga, we actually found a wonderful Hawaiian Air rate for open jaw RT travel that worked out well. All FF seats on the dates we wanted were taken, or would have required 70,000 miles to get. Paying the money was "cheaper", we thought. "amlowe", thanks for the offer of the companion ticket but it won't work this time. Really appreciate the thought! All the best!
