Can any of you guys help in offering options for cheap Sydney to Mexico return fares over the Christmas period ???

I have around 70,000 star points, and 70,000 oneworld points, but am traveling with 3 other people, making points use difficult.

Also obtained the Amex Plat 2 for 1 business fare, but is still rather expensive.

Any ideas of innovative ways of getting there cheaper ????????

Thanks.

UA offers non seasonal fares to Latin America from Syd for about $A2200 - even to Rio or Caracas that allow 5 stopovers and 10 on-line transfers in USA. Also open-jawable both ends. Great deal. SYD-LAX alone mid December on UA will cost you at least that I imagine. They are booked in "H" class and are thus upgradeable with points.

This is where computers have no brains.

Ask travel.com about MEX, and the fare on UA is very high.

Ask it for San Jose Costa Rica - a beautiful place (SJO) and this is what you get:

RETURN Economy Class flights on 19 Dec
from Sydney, Australia to San Jose Cr SJO, Costa Rica

Travel.com.au
recommended Rules Fare Code Continue
List AUD2182 Pay AUD2095 SAve AUD87 United Airlines Rules UASAMEA1/21D4
Great fare for visiting both the U.S.A and South America. Up to 5 stops permitted. Good frequent flyer points!

If you know anything about United, they fly VIA Mexcico City en-route to SJO!!

Never mind Ozstamps - Travel.com.au is STILL a great place to find cheap fares.

How about A$845 SYD to Honolulu on a 49 day Canada 3000 fare.

You can then use points or find a cheap ticket the rest of the way. And spend a few days in Hawaii.

Alternatively fly with Canada 3000 to Vancouver for $1220 ex Sydney.

You should be able to juggle cheap flights and or redeem points to go south from there.

All childs play. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

What about my post of a $345 return flight on CO from Aust-LAX via stops in Guam and Honolulu if you want! AND get useful CO FF points v/s SFA on "sardine can seats for 10 hours folks" Canada 10000/2000/3000! Did anyone ever wonder why there was never a Canada 4000 forum on this website? But they DO have one for even Tarom Romanian Airlines. (which I posted to earlier today actually!) Hmmmmm.

Hang on Ozstamps

As fare as I understand the rules for that fare - there are no stopovers although there is a way to stay 22 hours at Honolulu.

Seeing as this has come to a bit of oneupmanship (in a friendly way of course) I'll top that bid with my FREE yes $00 HKG to Portland return airfare on United although I admit I've yet to see anyone actually book it yet (at Travelocity - use dream maps).

ffhound,

You're really going to town with the Dream Maps, aren't you?? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I found the PWM-HKG UA fare in mid-May-- and I had no luck with it through a travel agency, and I never called UA res, thinking they would "take care of it" and pull the fare. I'm surprised it's still there.

Yes it's still there

We should offer a prize for the first person who actually figures out a way to book the fare.

Then we can all book several round trips and there will be hundreds of flyertalkers doing United mileage runs back and forthe betwen Hong Kong and the East Coast of America.

What a thought...

OK Peter, you get today's prize! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, it is certainly there and i just spent 10 minutes trying to jiggle the buttons and book the darn thing!

I posted a note about your "find" on the UA board .. someone there will try it via UA, you can bet!
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/002365.html

The CO board said that fare I posted did allow 1 stopver each way in either HNL or GUM as I recall.

Who says no-one at the airlines reads these boards?! Within 15 minutes of this posting the "00.00" fare HKG-PWM became a few $1000! "The Walls Have Ears"

FWIW, I've heard you definitely do not want to fly Canada 3000. Level of comfort and service leaves much to be desired. Luggage allowance is also only the standard IATA (44 lbs /20kg per pax).

OTH, they do have a "premium cabin" on the 757s with 5-across seating and about 38-39" seat pitch for a little more.

CO fare if your read the RULES on it, is valid for travel until December 8th. Love to hear if someone books it!

Canada 3000 is basically a charter airline. Like Brittania etc from the UK. Pile 'em in, squeeze 'em in, add lots of family groups and the consequent screaming babies for 10 hours, give 'em all no points, and a few pieces of plastic chicken, and sell the tickets cheap. OK for some I suppose. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Give me Row 15 upstairs on a UA Jumbo any day with a few bottles of French bubbly and lobster on the 14 hour SYD-SFO/LAX flight for me!

Well,

After extensive research, it seems that JAL is the cheapest way (without using points) to get to Mexico from Sydney.

Downside, they are not *A or Oneworld..

The fair is 1850 AUD companion economy or $4000 business....both very cheap....

Any thoughts on these fares ?????

BTW I ahve to travel later than 23rd december 2000.

You can earn miles flying on JL in certain FF schemes though it may be limited to certain routes. Can do so on AA and I think BA Exec. Club too.
