I am just full of questions tonight.
Suppose I am on Northwest 9876, operated by Delta (a non-as partner) will you get ANY miles at all?

Nope. No miles for a Delta operated flight if you try to credit it to Mileage Plan.

thanks for the info. so i guess the lesson is that domestically, alaska, horizon, nw or american must be the operator to get bonus miles
someone please correct me if i am wrong
thanks for tall the help
You can also earn bonus miles on Continental and Hawiian with a 50% bonus for first or biz, but no MVP or gold bonus and flights aren't eliete qualifying.
Other domestic earning partners include Helijet, Era Aviation, Pen Air and select Big Sky routes.
See http://www.alaskaair.com/mileageplan/MileagePartners_Airline.asp for more info.

But it is a codeshare - Northwest 9876. Who cares whos metal it is if it has a NW flight number? I have always ASSUMED a codeshare was treated just like an owned an operated plane. I'm really wrong? First time in the last 15 seconds!

Doesn't matter how you buy your ticket, it's the Operator of the flight.
Same goes for CO flights operated by VS (Virgin). Neither AS nor NW folks may earn miles b/c neither of them has a partnership with VS. CO folks can, and I believe DL members can as well, since DL has a parternship with VS.
Similarly, as a OP member myself, I can earn miles on the once daily AS-opearted SFO-LAX, but not the dozen or so AS SFO-LAX operated by AA.
Be careful with those codeshares!

Do the CO coded flights operated by Gulfstream International through FL and the Bahamas earn AS miles? There is a CO livery painted on their planes, but it seems it is a seperate company.
