Let me get this straight - United ownsMyPoints, yet won't give out miles? Why did they even buy them if they didn't think they could add value to the existing (money-losing) product?
The RT ticket for 40,000 points has a lot of restrictions, but it give miles which should also count towards elite status.

The travel award isn't too bad ... seems to me it should be pretty easy to book if you only have to find flights with availability in Q or V ...
40,000 MyPoints isn't that high of a level either ...
It does surprise me they aren't offering miles of course ...

40k points is a bit high for such a restrictive fare.
Apart from that, at 500 points/month, which is about what I'm getting, it'll take 7 years to earn a ticket. Who knows what MyPoints will be offering by then, or if it will even exist.

The discounts are only applicable to H,Q,V,W fares.

It shows the devaluation of points in the mypoints program. Once it took only 20,000 points to get a free domestic ticket with AA. And it only took a few months to accumulate. Mypoints must give better incentives to maintain a lot of points, or every one is going to cash out at 1000 points.

I just noticed that the United discount certs have been reduced, "for a limited time." With the MyPoints slow-down, I don't visit often, so thia may be old news. $25 off coupon for 1,250 points (normally 2,500 points). The higher value coupons don't make sense though, better to redeem for several $25 coupons.

Really? Don't these coupons have the "only one per flight" restriction that seems to plague all other UA $ off coupons these days?
From the terms and conditions (very bottom) "Only one discount certificate, discount voucher or discount may be used per ticket."

I was speaking only in terms of more bang for your MyPoints "buck".

No bang there if you can't use 'em. Also, it's a pain to go to somewhere that accepts UA $25 off vouchers, and they don't accept them online.
