For passengers who take commuter planes at some of the nation's small airports, flying is reminiscent of the days before the 9/11 attacks. They don't encounter federal screeners or metal and explosives detectors that now are standard fixtures at more than 440 airports nationwide.

These airports have Beechcraft 1900 flights, typically. That's a 19-seat turboprop. It would have difficulty taking out a bowling alley.

Has everyone gone insane?
