I certainly thought it was a stupid stunt but exactly what was he guilty of? Not showing Govt Issued ID?

And he didn't even get to earn miles for this expensive trip http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Well, at least he didn't have to pay the Security Fee... And maybe he did earn miles, if he could pay the fine with an airline FF program affinity VISA card. True, they wouldn't be status miles...

For US$1,500.00 plus the original cost of shipping himself, he could have saved himself some money by flying comfortably in First Class or Business Class, earning miles both in his frequent flyer account and towards status, consuming a minimum of a small snack and drinks, not to mention saving his and other people’s time by not going through with this ridiculous stunt, and had at least enough money and time left over to take his family out for dinner at a nice restaurant...

As I recall, he shipped himself at his employer's expense because he couldn't afford a ticket. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I doubt getting caught and fined was calculated and budgeted for when the trip planned...

If that was the case, does he still work for that employer?

I cannot imagine that his employer had previous knowledge of this stunt and permitting it to happen. I would further believe that the employer would feel deceived if this were known only after the fact. In either case, I would think that the employer would seriously question the judgement and integrity of having such an employee work for the company.

Obviously, but he has to pay regardless of his intentions!
