13 people were killed and 32 others injured today when a walkway collapsed on the Queen Mary II, the newly-built ship dubbed the largest passenger liner in the world, officials said.

A 10-metre gangway from the quayside erected just the day before broke during a visit by a party of family-members of shipyard construction workers, precipitating about 40 people into a fall of 20 metres into the dry-dock.

Condolences to the families. While the loss of any life is tragic, what makes this especially tragic is that I heard the families touring the ship were the relatives of the workers that had built the QM2.

The ol' Cunard curse angle will no doubt resurface in some media outlets. Of course, I hope it doesn't as it would be a diservice to those that lost loved ones in the accident.
