Some guy finally went "screener" on someone. Probably just got tired of being called a nazi thug.

More likely he was upset that all those people got to board the train without having their shoes inspected.

Or, he was just someone who had severe emotional problems before he even took the job. I don't think the postal workers, who have gone postal, have done so because of anyone calling them nazi thugs. In addition, there is no indication that this had anything to do with job related stress.

Nice try though http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

I think this guy was trying to wake the country up to the terrorism threat on the trains. He probably was illustrating that the search for sharp and pointy objects should be expanded to our trains and other modes of transportation.

Of course there's clearly a need to screen TSA agents who want to travel by train - shoes and pants off buddy!!

Which makes me wonder:
Who has how much access to the knives, tools, sharp sticks, fresh fruit, etc. that the TSA confiscate from pax?

How DOES somebody end up with a weapon like that?

Who's screening the screeners?

A Butcher Knife? Too bad they turned that third-rail off. Well, I am glad that TSA screeners were verboten to talk to the press about this guy. It would not have been pretty.

Don't laugh, I've been to at least one presentation by an Amtrak Police official who thinks they need to do this nationwide. (Have you seen any Amtrak stations outside of the Northeast Corridor, sir?)

And Washington State Ferries had to tell the TSA that searching every passenger that was boarding their ferry routes, especially the two that run out of downtown Seattle heavily used by commuters was less-than-practical:

"That incident caused the Blue Line to be shut down for 30 minutes."

Wow, an actual stabbing and the Blue Line is down for half an hour. Somebody registers a false positive on the x-ray and the concourse is dumped....

Anyone else see the irony here?

Maybe the train should be a sterile area.

Let's see ... besides airports, TSA inspections soon at ferries and boats, train stations, malls, supermarkets, gas stations, bridge crossings, toll booths, autos, businesses, and on it goes.

Maybe everyone should just stay at home and lock their doors.

Regime change in 2004 !!!!!!!!

Yep,

We MUST get rid of Daschle and the rest of the DEMOCRATS who forced this disgusting agency down our throats.

The Transportation Security Act was passed in the Senate 100-0 and 410-9 in the House.

I can only conclude that at the time the TSA act was passed there were only 9 Republicans in both houses of Congress, and that it is all the fault of the 510 democrats who voted for the bill.

And that idiot Loy in charge of the TSA? Well, that is Clinton's fault. He obviously planted the idea of appointing him into Bush's mind, just like he planted those lies that were in Bush's State of the Union Address.

If only we can get more Republicans into office, then Atty. Gen. Ashcroft will have a free hand to "restore" our freedoms.

In the post-9/11 hysteria, the Republicans would have been comitting suicide had they blocked this idiotic agency.

At the time, the Republicans fought VERY hard for PRIVATE screeners supervised by the Government. Comrade Daschle, not wanting to miss an opportunity to add 100,000 more government dependants, threw a hissy fit ("You don't professionalize until you federalize").

As for this new idiot Loy, he was appointed by Nomr Minetta, a DEMOCRAT. I figure and hope that his stint under Tom Ridge will be short lived.

Keep trying to twist the truth. Deception is the only thing the Democrats have going for them right now.

Norman Y. Mineta became the 14th U.S. Secretary of Transportation on January 25, 2001.

In nominating him, President Bush said, "Norm made a reputation in the halls of Congress as someone who understands that a sound infrastructure in America will lead to economic opportunity for all Americans."

Sounds like the Evil Mineta had Bush's approval to me (just like Loy), or did the democrats FORCE him to say this also?

Try to pull your head out of the sand, and look around. Tom Ridge so far has been able to set up a web site and advise everyone to buy plastic sheeting and duct tape. I wouldn't hold my breath expecting this Bush appointee to fix anything.

I agree. The Bush administration and it's announcement today that it wants to get another 5,000 untrained air marshals in the air tells us that the administration has no responsibility for the ridiculous state of security today.

Also, Bush should take no responsibility for signing the Transportation Security Act into law. And the GOP should take no responsibility, despite the fact that the act was passed 100-0 in the Senate and 410-9 in the House.

Oh, and where does the TSA fall under the government's organizational chart?

Yes, that's right, under the Department of Homeland Security, created by the Bush administration and overseen by Tom Ridge, the cabinet member appointed by Bush to the cabinet position created by Bush.

The TSA may have been created by more urging from the Democrats than Grand Old Party, but the Grand Old's voted for it. And now, as the TSA is under the Dept. of Homeland Security, Bush and his man Ridge are largely in control.

In the post-9/11 hysteria, the Republicans would have been comitting suicide had they blocked this idiotic agency.

You mean just like the Republicans did to get the Democrats to support the Bush - Iraq war? Sorry, that defense doesn't work when both parties engage in using hysteria, fear and "patriotism" to push their own agendas.

Who created the TSA and under what circumstances isn't going to help us now. The bottom line is that the TSA part of the DHS, headed up by a Bush cabinet memeber, and the GOP has a majority in both houses of Congress too. Some might even say it has a majority in the Supreme Court as well.

When your people are in the majority in all three branches of the government, you've got no one else to blame but yourselves if everything isn't running smoothly.

Well, it's not running smoothly, and the majority party seems to be saying very little about improving the situation. In fact, the opposite seems to be the case, as Ascroft is out on a tour to try to sell the Patriot Act and even more restrictions on the public.

Blame is bipartisian. Why continue to debate otherwise is beyond me. As Spiff said, there's plenty to go around.

Just don't blame me; I voted Libertarian. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

This shows the other big risk - Pilots with guns, TSA Screeners that collude can be serious risks to security. After our famous KGB agents in FBI, I hope they do extensive constant background checks and random test on all at risk people. There are too many good people in these roles but a few bad apple can change the risk profile for everyone.
