TSA Issues 'No-Fly List' Clearance Policy
Relief Granted to Passengers with Names Similar to Terror Suspects

It's a disgrace that these people still have to undergo a background check to fly, but it's a step away from the harassment they faced earlier. The TSA was essentially shamed into implementing this policy; let's keep up the pressure in other areas.

How does this stop terrorists from getting themselves off the no-fly list? Oh yeah, that's right... we don't have any sleeper cell terrorists in the US to worry about. And I'm quite sure that those who are indeed terrorists won't be able to come up with a SSN and 3 pieces of identification... Oh no, after all it's impossible to falsify IDs and fool the federal government. That's why visas were still issued to some of those who were involved with 9/11 even after their involvement was uncovered and they were declared dead.
Another great idea from the same folks who probably told Tom Ridge that duct tape and plastic sheeting would be the ideal chemical defense shield...
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the new policy was prompted at least in part by the case of Asif Iqbal, a New York Muslim who was kept off planes because he shares the name of a person held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. Let's take all the folks who are under 24hr constant surveillance in a place where their absence will be immediately noticed and put their real names on a no-fly list. Never mind that they won't be flying anywhere for a long time... most likely the rest of their lives. And of course it would never cross their minds to secure false identification and use that instead...
Bad no-security, pure-nonsense policies continue to abound over a list that should not exist in the first place. Putting someone's name on a list has never done any good at stopping a potential terrorist from boarding a jet-- and it likely never will. It's just another hassle that's put in place for decent, honest, law-abiding citizens.
How long will it take for people to realize that these policies aren't working, are only unnecessarily intrusive, and are a waste of time? It's a shame that the TSA and DHS don't realize that what they're doing is wrong, wasteful, and counterproductive. I have some suggestions for Mr. Ridge that may actually work if implemented properly-- if he'd be willing to pay for my consulting work I'd gladly provide them. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Ridge wouldn't accept your advice even if you gave it to him for free. The folks in DC have an agenda to fulfil.

...and I'm sure all the "David Nelson's" are just pleased as punch.
I wonder when this will become the requirement for ALL of us? Sounds like the beginnings of the famed "Trusted Traveler Program????"
