ROME, Ga. - A ComAir flight attendant was arrested Thursday on charges he starting an airplane lavatory fire that forced an emergency landing May 8.

A federal grand jury indicted Turhan Jamar Lamons on a charge of attempting to set fire to and wreck ComAir Airlines Flight 5491 from Atlanta to Huntsville, Ala.

The 50-passenger plane landed at the Rome airport after someone reported smoke coming from the lavatory. No one was injured. Investigators found partly burned newspaper in the restroom.</font>Check out the article. This guy is a *real* rocket scientist. He is also charged with making a bomb threat in Sept., 2001. Police say he called because his request for a day off was turned down.

I'm wondering how the hell this guy was allowed to stay in the industry, *despite* having made a phony bomb threat (just after Sep. 11th to make it worse). What a gold-plated horse's arse http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Most of us wouldn't be allowed to even get *on* a plane after such behavior, let alone be a flight attendant.

Rigid background checks, I see....

How did he get a job at another airline?

Easy.

Since he was not CONVICTED, he did not have to disclose this information.

When airline A called Airlne B for a reference, they did not reveal anything in fear of getting sued. Like most companies, they only said he once worked there. Nothing else. Chicken $hit America too afraid of lawsuits.

It is not just some irrational fear that causes them to say this. Last time I checked, it is illegal to dispense negative information in a reference. In such cases, they only give info like the duration that he worked there.
