from the article:
Implantable human tracking chip launched
Injected under your skin

The microchips, already available in the United States, could tap into a growing industry surrounding Mexico's criminal concerns. Kidnappings, robberies and fraud are common here, and Mexicans are constantly looking for ways to protect themselves against crime.

The microchip, the size of a grain of rice, is implanted in the arm or hip. Hospital officials and security guards use a scanning device to download a serial number, which they then use to access blood type, name and other information on a computer.

I would be more afraid of John Ashcroft extending it as a "mandatory security" initiative for all US citizens and residents (and implanted at birth) to "help" law enforcement identify and track "suspected criminals".

I would say they can keep their chip along with the horrific civil rights and privacy losses that could result from its use. Can anyone say "George Orwell's 1984?".

I cant imagine anyone volunteering to be implanted with a tracking device. People living in other countries where their lives are threatened daily by murders and kidnappings might have personal compelling reasons to use it, but it has no good use in this country.
