Boeing sees 747 continuing as key aircraft
Boeing Co (NYSE:BA - News) expects its veteran 747 jumbo jetliner to continue to play a key a role in the company's product line, with some range and capacity enhancements, a top executive said on Thursday.
"Our customers told us the 400 seat 747 will continue to play an important role in the future," said Randy Baseler, vice president for marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
"As they begin planning for the replacement of their current 747 fleets, we anticipate a requirement for adding a few more seat rows and additional 500 miles in range in order to serve more markets with non-stop service."
He said the planned performance upgrades would be above and beyond Boeing's latest 747-400 extended range model, which Australian carrier Qantas (Australia:QAN.AX - News) took the first delivery of in October 2002.
