Newsstand - We're Not Just Orange, We're Orange-Plus!

Originally I thought Orange Plus was a children's breakfast drink, but apparently our National leadership has decided to change our threat level to Orange-Plus, which is less confusing than the other suggested choices, which included:

1) pink pok-a-dot
2) farmer's plaid
3) strawberry dacquiri maroon
4) macademia-nut beige

on an unfortunately more serious note, we can certainly speculate that this upgrade will throw many of our fellow citizens into quite a tizzy tonight, with water, duct tape, batteries, canned foods, and yes, $4 gas masks, flying off the shelves at a brisk pace.

Some points from the article...

More Coast Guard patrols, escorts of passenger ships and additional sea marshals. Sea marshals?? Since when did the taxpayers get into the business of funding week-long luxury fun vacations for government employees? How is a sea marshal going to provide security and protection to 2,500 people on board a vessel larger than a couple football fields??

State officials briefed Monday night about raising the threat level say they were told that a terrorist attack on U.S. soil is a near certainty. This should make people feel nice and comfortable http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

There also have been discussions about closing the nation’s most strategic ports, MSNBC.com has learned This should be good for the economy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

This is shaping out to be a really bad week...I wonder how the domestic and international flights will be affected over the next few days. Has anyone seen or heard rumors of cancellations or changes on any major carriers? I know BA has stopped service to Tel Aviv as of Wednesday...

Sure -- if anything happens I'll blame it squarely on McPresident. I guess the word "provocation" has a bit too many letters for him. I'd bet that if we stop beating our war drum about preemptively attacking another country that the rest of the world won't be nearly so mad at us.

I saw some Liberty Shields on the shelf at the Safeway. They were between the Depends and the Always with Wings.

Not like I actually use any of those products, mind you. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Doesn't anyone realize that it's too late to "shield" ourselves from terrorists responding to the war in Iraq at this point?

Anyone who wants to commit terrorism in the US is already here. Putting a big net around the country isn't going to stop anything. We give terrorists too little credit. It's not like they're sitting at home watching sitcoms, and just decided today to try to get to the US carrying conspicuous bombs...

These terror alerts don't do anything to make us safer.

No kidding, the inspiration for Liberty Shield is Captain America!

Marvel Knights is proud to present an all-new, ongoing CAPTAIN AMERICA series of gut-wrenching intensity:

In the aftermath of 9/11, Cap must deal with the way America — and the world — have changed. From the ruins of the World Trade Center to the horrors of a small town shaken by terrorism, this is one double-sized first issue you'll never forget — and neither will Marvel's star-spangled champion!
"The man's a soldier: fierce, focused, and absolutely dedicated to the American dream," Rieber stated. "He fights for the people — we, the people. Because he's one of us. He knows this country. He sees America as it is — the beauty and the bloody shadows of it, the nobility and the savagery of it. He knows what it could be — what it should be. What it was meant to be, from the beginning... and he'd die to get us there. He is the shield. Liberty's shield. And though he's just a man, like the ideal of freedom that drives him, he's really hard to kill."
The debut issue of this ongoing, monthly series is 48 pages, with ads. Printed on glossy stock paper.

After Ridge, Ashcroft, and Bush get through with us, maybe the correct name should be "Operation Liberty YIELD." I wish this was funny...

Orange Plus? Doesn't that mean they added calcium to orange juice?

Then, we were provoked, and we rightly attacked back. Iraq hasn't attacked us, nor is there evidence that they have planned to. The Bushie agenda is filled with lies and half-truths. I suggest you read this (http://www.msnbc.com/news/886806.asp).

After scanning the documents, here is my understanding of the Orange color code system, part of the Color Code Super Set:

After Orange Plus, there's Maxi Orange Plus,

Then there's Super Orange Plus Plus , (when you absolutely, positively have to feel protected)

Then there's New Improved Day and Night Super Orange Plus , developed by military and civilian homeland security scientists for the ultimate in long lasting and effective security.

And after that there's Ultimate Super Maxi Orange Plus with New! Added Calcium., for those days when you *must* feel absolutely safe.

Let's not forget Ultimate Super-Maxi Orange Plus Unscented (now reinforced with duct tape) for those days when you *must* feel protected, but just don't want your neighbors, government, or enemies to know!

Sea marshalls are tasty little morsels that you can get in Fr-nce when they are in season. They cook them in white wine and butter seasoned simply with salt and pepper.

Yes. The Bush administration needs to put up shields to keep the liberty out.

If hostilities in Iraq do arouse terrorists' ire, it's what happens after the conflict that we need to worry about - witness what happened after the first Gulf War. This fact seems to be lost on our fearless leader W the Great. Then again, I would expect no less from the administration that told us in one sentence they would not repeat the mistakes we made last time our military was in Afghanistan, then used the next sentence to say U.S. resources would not be used for nation-building.
