Quad-Cities Online article (http://www.qconline.com/archives/qco/sections.cgi?met!id!144034)

``The TSA and the flying public has to get used to it,'' he said. ``You can no longer think that you can get here an hour before your flight.''

A lot of the public has gotten used to it. They're staying home. Way to go, dude.

``It is critical that people get here early,'' Mr. Carter said. ``We don't want people inconvenienced.''

HUH???

Also mentioned: "In addition to X-raying checked and carry-on luggage, TSA security officers also are hand-searching all carry-on luggage....."

Is the hand searching of ALL carry on luggage happening at other airports???

I mean seriously: the Quad freakin' Cities?
Yeah, that's a real bastion of terrorism. What's the longest flight out of QC? 45 minutes?
I'm sorry, but there is not enough traffic at this airport to require 2 hours of security screening. Its just not possible.
I don't care if the alert is orange, pink, mauve, or polka dotted, this is just not necessary!!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif

They are handsearching shoes??? Just what we need, more sensitive metal detectors. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Am I the only one who thought that this was about an airport in QUEBEC ??? I was wondering why Canada was mentioned in connection with the US color-coded "security" alerts.

My first thought was Qantas Club (!), so I opened the thread to see where Spiff was really talking about.

I'll bet you were thinking about Trois Rivieres. 3 Rivers versus 4 cities :-)

[End baseless rant]The airport mentioned,MLI, is about 5 air milesfrom a key US Army production facility; in fact the only one in the country producing the recoil mechanisim used in artillery; i.e. howitzers. And they have been burning the night candles there lately, if you know what I mean. That airport, recently remodeled, has just one security checkpoint and there are dozen or so flights that leave in a two hr time frame early am. Not exactly Ohare, but they do get backed up.
