It saddens me that you have to cry so much.

Have a nice day...

This is not news, nor is it appropriate for FT.

Spiff has raised very important issues that address our core civil rights. I appreciate that someone is taking a stand when so many people do not seem to care.

At least you got a suitable handle, Crock. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I disagree with him 75% of the time, I'd say, and I enjoy his posts because he puts thought and reasoning into them. Also, despite what I posted on the other thread, he does seem to be able to give on his positions when he is clearly wrong. Also, I like that he can debate without taking it personally/making personal attacks/using Nazi termi.... oops... well, taking it personally/making personal attacks.

This thread needs no reply. And new member Crock will spend Christmas and New Years alone without FlyerTalk. Our TOC is rather clear and for a new member to immediately get into these types of remarks - there is no acceptance of this.

On FlyerTalk - the topic is travel.

Hear, hear. I, too, differ with many of Spiff's posts, which is why I read them; I learn more from people who disagree with me than I do from those who agree with me. And now and then Spiff writes something that changes my mind.

Wish we had a flyertalk spiff-cam to watch his encounters with the TSA. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I want to go on a run with Spiff so we can encounter TSA across the country at various airports. I happen to agree with Spiff about 99.9 percent of the time, and he was VERY helpful and to me when I was stopped at ORD recently for disorderly conduct when I had the audacity to question the security agents. As far as championing the cause for our rights to travel hassle-free, Spiff is the man!!

This is one of the most inaccurate line of commentary that I've seen here. As has been pointed out to you time and again, there are no violations of civil rights involved in airport screening because of the simple fact that the courts have held that such screenings are in compliance with the Constitution.

Therefore, before you start complaining about your civil rights being violated, you will have to get judges appointed to the bench who agree with you. You will have to change the President, who appoints them, and the Senate, who confirms them.

Until you change these things, your civil rights are NOT being violated.

And I challenge any of you to point me to a phrase in the Constitution that guarantees you the right to air travel.

I agree that when I approach and go through a "security" checkpoint that I am consenting to a search. What about when they search my checked bag outside of my presence without asking for my consent?

And then,

So the Constitution [in general] only applies to those technologies or circumstances that the Founding Fathers specifically mentioned by name or envisioned?

Please allow me to quote a fellow FTer,

xyzzy,

I agree. That's my #1 complaint with the checked baggage policy and the reason I will no longer fly if I have to check a bag -- period.

I looked into AMTRAK between Washington DC & Denver. The fare for a sleeper car (dinner and valet service included) is less than $1100 round trip. The trip takes two overnights connecting through Chicago and arriving in Denver at about 0830. The cheapest coach ticket on UAL (with a corporate discount) is about $1400, given my usual travel schedule lead time.

Adios, TSA!

PS: As to the subject of Constitutional rights and our elected officials who interpret it, please remember that the landslide winners of all of our national elections is Mr./Ms "None of the Above." If more than 38% of us bothered to vote, I guarantee there would be several "new faces" in the Administration, Congress, and the Bench. We get what we deserve...

Oh please! Not another one of these 'no where in the Constitution' statements again! There were no friggin' planes when the Constitution was written and it is not the only place where we are guaranteed rights.

With apologies to Voltaire--

I disagree with many if not most of Spiff's posts, but I shall defend to the death his right to have such opinions.

Tony (a non-lawyer) interprets one opinion from the 9th Circuit upholding a screening checkpoint search several years ago (against a smartass lawyer, nonetheless) as somehow validating everything the moron Mineta and his lapdogs at the TSA have done to us in the past 16 months. Tony, your legal analysis is lacking, but I would defend to the death your rights to your (faulty) opinions. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Tony, have the best Holiday season you can and I hope you find something soon. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
