I believe that at airports which aren't yet doing the screening at the check point they are going to a system where the gate checks are applied only on randomly selected flights.

I was at PDX on Sunday afternoon and I do not believe that screening has yet been moved to the check point. In fact, I was still able to traverse main security just by presenting an Eticket receipt in lieu of a boarding pass.

Nevertheless, as I watched a friend of mine board her flight to SFO, I observed that there was most definitely no "random" gate checks in progress, at least for that flight.

Right, that's why I said "the gate checks are applied only on randomly selected flights."

Confirmed---the white shirts are gone.
I flew on AS/CX to Asia and my boarding pass is always printed with *s*---Alaska seems to think anyone flying on their planes to Asia is a risk. When they scanned my boarding pass at the gate the screen turned red, the agent looked for his TSA people but since nobdoys was around he let me board.

Flying back from YVR, they still had the gate check security person. The agent had to repeat several times that the flight was now boarding before some lady proceeded to the gate where she got pulled aside. At that point everyone else got up to board the aircraft.

Somethings never change.
