US renews terror alert for Middle East, Persian Gulf, N Africa
The United States today renewed its warning for possible terrorist attacks in the Middle East, the Gulf and North Africa, urging US citizens in the region to take extra security precautions.
The warning, issued by the State Department, supersedes a similar May 21 alert that had not been due to expire until November 20.
It was not immediately clear if Washington had received new information about possible attacks, but the alert follows a series of recent attacks on US and Western interests in the Middle East and the Gulf, including the murder of a US diplomat in Jordan, an attack on US Marines in Kuwait and the bombing of a French supertanker off the coast of Yemen.
