Brian,

What exactly is your point? The gun was apparently picked up on x-ray. The same thing would have happened a year ago, pre-9/11. The guy, a 57-year-old who was traveling to Hawaii with his family, said that he didn't know the gun was in his back-pack. Sounds reasonable to me.

Do you consider him a threat?

Bruce

I consider myself to have a sense of humor, actually. Please join me.

It occasionally causes your lips to turn up at the corners in what is commonly known as a "smile."

It's never funny when someone gets arrested. It's even worse when the person is an apparently law-abiding 57-year-old (a little long in the tooth to be a terrorist, wouldn't we agree?) traveling with his family.

I suppose it would be too easy to say, "Excuse me, sir. You apparently forgot that you have a gun with you. We're going to have to confiscate it. Have a nice vacation."

No, I'm not kidding.

And that is truly unfortunate. Uh, hello, guns have been prohibited from airplanes for how long now? This isn't some new thing that they just decided to do.

It also says flat out that weapons are prohibited on the signs that are by any screening area.

This is a case of the security system doing exactly what it is supposed to do -- preventing weapons from being carried on board planes -- and the person who broke the rules being punished.

I am all for that.

Bruce, I may be a tiny bit naive, but when you take a loaded weapon through security, and then are uncooperative with the authorities, you no longer pass muster as a law abiding citizen.

"Dixon said several officers responded and took the man into custody after a brief struggle because he did not want to be handcuffed. One of the officers suffered a cut finger during the scuffle but did not require medical attention, Dixon said. "

Well, gee, when you go through security at an airport with a loaded weapon, even if unintentionally, you can probably expect to be handcuffed while things get sorted out. If you fight the officers at that point, sorting it ut will take longer.

This seems pretty basic to me.

What of it? An x-ray machine found a gun. Amazing. It's a wonder they didn't empty the terminal as this could have been part of some kind of vacationing terrorist plot.

(This kind of reminds me of a seal wanting someone to throw him a fish for some reason... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif )

I am constantly amazed that people "forget" that they have guns with them. Are you not supposed to know where your gun is at all times?????

I hope that they prosecute him and jail him, for stupidity if nothing else. And he should not be allowed to play with guns of any type.

I can't tell you how many times I've accidently packed my bazooka, then caught myself before going to the airport. Whew!

Actually, the most disturbing element of this article is the revelation that SJC has been named after Mineta. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif When did that happen?

probably right after they moved all the rental cars out of the parking garage.

That was confusing the first time I flew into SJC after they did that... I went out to the top floor of the garage out of habit and wondered where all the cars were! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
