Most of the work you've done in transportation, before last fall, involved ground transportation, most recently for the National Transportation Safety Board. Now you have been selected to take over as the new head of the Federal Aviation Administration. Do you like to fly?
You know, I do. I've always liked to fly. There is something about it that I find exciting. There's always that moment when it's a minor miracle that you are actually off the ground. Do you like to fly?
The moment the plane lifts off the ground I always think, This is incredible. I can't believe we can do this.
There's a little bit of elation in it, isn't there?
There is. So, are you a window or aisle person?
I do both. I do thoroughly enjoy the window seat because I love to look out. One thing I like to do when I'm sitting near the wing is watch the aircraft performance -- the ailerons, the spoilers when you land. It's exciting to see it in action.
