While many airlines are struggling to cut costs, capacity and stay in the air, a new carrier is set to make its debut in the UK.
Astraeus, a holiday carrier with five aircraft, hopes to launch in March, according to a report in the London Sunday Times.
The team behind it, all experienced aviation industry executives, sees the current downturn as an opportunity.
Chairman Brad Burgess, former managing director of British Airways franchise operator CityFlyer Express, told the newspaper: "The situation is now very similar to when we launched CityFlyer at the end of the Gulf War. Aircraft are incredibly cheap and there is a hole in the market for this type of operation."
