Man Held In Florida On Charge Of Making False Report Of Explosives
A 34-year-old unemployed man from Jacksonville, Fla., was ordered held on USD$100,000 bail on a charge of making a false report of explosives. Zemir Halilovic was arrested after he told a translator he was carrying bombs from Osama bin Laden, a prosecutor said yesterday.
No bombs were found on the man's flight to Philadelphia, and he told another translator Friday that he had been joking, said Tim Harrington, an assistant county attorney.
Halilovic was about to board a USAirways flight when he became agitated during a routine security check, Harrington said.
Halilovic swore at a ticket agent, held his hand like a gun and pretended to shoot, the prosecutor said.
Officials called a translator to speak with Halilovic, who is from Bosnia and came to the United States in 2000.
According to Harrington, Halilovic said: "Bin Laden gave me four bombs to bring on the plane."
