Airlines Fight Plan To Hike Landing Fees At Tokyo Airport
Japan Airlines and other carriers operating from Tokyo's Narita International airport are fighting plans to raise landing fees, already the world's highest.
New Tokyo International Airport Authority wants to raise landing fees by 8.3 per cent, or 200 yen a ton, to 2,600 yen.
"We have already been forced to undertake dramatic cuts in costs to stay in business," said Geoff Tudor, a spokesman at Japan Airlines, which holds a quarter of landing and takeoff slots at Narita. "This will guarantee that they will continue to hold the Guinness Book record as the world's most expensive airport."
