Newsstand - Midway Airlines Receives Cash To Resume Flying

Bankrupt Midway Airlines will receive about USD$10 million from the United States national airline bailout program to resume flying, officials said.

At risk of sounding heartless and cruel, they should not be bailed out. They are not viable. Letting them fly weakens would-be stronger competitors and hurts the flying public's chance of doing business with financially strong airlines.

Ditto America West et al.

thats exactly what it comes down to. IMHO giving midway the money is no worse than what we gave everyone else. and since everyone else got it, i don't have a problem with midway getting the money.

Valid points; however, I feel that by allowing the smaller airlines (some of course not so small anymore) such as Midway, America West, Southwest and AirTran for example does give the flying public other options than using the so called "big boys" and allows for competition on certain routes thus giving us the opportunity for lower fares in certain cities.

I stopped flying Midway when they bailed from the American Airlines AAdvantage program.

I did hear some good things from them though... Pulling out of AA is postively a bad move.

Midway did not bail from AA. The pilots at AA refused to extend the agreement concerning FF miles. Now AA Eagle has picked up much of the same routes as Midway and AA appears set to try and keep Midway out. AA claims that to wants to retain all the AA FFers that got used to getting miles. Terminal C at RDU is very empty compared to the past. They also just installed templates on the xray machines so I had to check my garment bag. Midway had friendly, efficient service and I liked them.
