FAA proposes $1 mln fine against American Airlines
Friday June 22, 2:49 PM EDT
WASHINGTON, June 22 (Reuters) - Federal aviation authorities have proposed a $1 million fine against AMR Corp.'s American Airlines (AMR) for alleged battery maintenance violations, the agency said.
The Federal Aviation Administration alleged on Thursday the world's largest carrier failed to properly maintain batteries for aircraft cabin floor lights used during emergency evacuations.
The agency said safety inspections at several American facilities revealed that incorrect chargers and chargers with broken or inoperative cables were used to charge and store emergency exit path lighting batteries.
American has requested a meeting with the FAA to discuss the proposed fine.
