Priceline.com Inc (PCLN.O), the ''name-your-own-price'' Internet commerce firm, on Thursday reported a wider-than-expected fourth-quarter loss, but said it expects to become profitable in the second quarter of 2001.

Norwalk, Conn.-based Priceline said its fourth-quarter pro forma net loss widened to $25 million, or 15 cents per share, compared to a loss of $10 million, or 6 cents per share, in the year-earlier quarter. The 2000 figures exclude restructuring and special charges.

"Clearly we are disappointed by our financial results in the fourth quarter," Priceline President Daniel H. Schulman said in a conference call. "However, during that same time period we began to implement a six-point turnaround program."
