The end of paper airline tickets is a step closer. The International Air Transport Association (Iata) and information technology company Sita Group are to start an issuing system for electronic tickets for international flights by mid-2001 after resolving data-security questions.

ALmost all US carriers, and many European carriers do offer International and local E-tickets. The difference is that my IATA travel agent can not issue me an e-ticket. I think this is what they might be talking about. Finally, no more red carbon paper from the TA.

I don't think I want an e-ticket yet internationally. Seems too many checkpoints exist and I can just imagine explaining over and over why I don't have a ticket with my boarding pass...

Actually international e-tickets have worked quite well for me and most people I know. They have been around long enough for most people needing to inquire about tickets to know about their existence. I have never had a problem in the past 6 months and LOVE the CO 50% e-ticket bonus. Maybe problems exist for third world countries.
