-- [B] American Airlines plans to expand TWA's St. Louis hub --

By Elaine Grant, BridgeNews
St. Louis--Feb. 15--Expansion at Trans World Airlines Inc.'s St. Louis hub
is "absolutely critical," American Airlines Chief Executive Don Carty told
reporters in St. Louis Thursday.
* * *
In addition to supporting existing plans for an additional runway at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, American, if it is successful in purchasing TWA for $500 million in cash, will begin to develop plans for a new terminal, Carty said.
Some St. Louis residents have been worried than American planned to scale
down operations at the hub, but Carty said the flight schedule would be
operated "essentially as is," with some adjustments for route overlaps.
Because there is little room for growth in American's Chicago and Dallas
hubs, Carty said American plans to move some of its Chicago flights to St.
Louis. Carty added that over the next four to five years, St. Louis will be the
American hub that will see the most growth as a connecting city for East-West
traffic, and that Chicago will be more focused on local traffic. St. Louis is
better located as a connecting city than either Chicago or Dallas, Carty said.

St Louis is better focused for connecting traffic than Chicago? Or, better focused for AA since they won't have to compete with UA for passengers?

IMHO this type of PR is SOP in takeovers, buyouts etc. Right now AA and TW have the only non-stops so that will combo will definately DECREASE. Dont bet your mortgage money on it.
