Federal investigators yesterday arrested 20 people, including six current or former American Airlines employees, on marijuana smuggling charges.
"Essentially, we have zero tolerance for that type of activity and we cooperated fully with federal authorities, and we have nothing more to say," said Mark Kienzle, spokesman for the Fort Worth-based airline.
U.S. Attorney Paul Coggins said the suspects had smuggled 10 tons of marijuana in the past two years, using Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport as a hub for operations that stretched from Puerto Rico north to Pennsylvania.
