Safi Nairobi claims she asked her American Airlines flight attendant for an ice pack and got dry ice instead, causing burns on her lower back.

At first it seems like a small - if not a little bizarre - personal injury lawsuit.

Except that Nairobi, a San Francisco-based commercial photographer, says her burns were so severe that her plane to San Francisco last August had to land in Denver, where she spent the week in the hospital.

Then, two weeks later, a nearly identical incident happened on another American flight, according to a separate lawsuit filed by a Bay Area man.
