Many of their USA flights have been cancelled Friday. I did some research from their web-site - see the thread in the DL forum.

Is this really news? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

What else is new? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Here's a link to the (current) story:

French national carrier AF cancelled half its flights out of Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports Friday as stewards and air hostesses went on strike

I think it is news because it's the start of the late spring vacation season, some people taking advantage of discount fares and the exchange rate of EURO.

Thank you RUdi. I hope they are able to settle their dispute quickly.

And do they seriously call flight attendants "air hostesses?" I was on a DEN-LAS United shuttle flight and the drunken men in first called the poor F-A air hostess and she showed her name and said "I am not a hostess or a air waitress. I am a flight professional."

I appaluded and got a bottle of champaign for being nice to her.

I'd think it would be more efficient to list when a France-based company wasn't on strike.

"AF NOT on strike 5/1 - 5/5, 5/21 - 5/25, 6/2 - 6/6"

Dare I ask what triggered this? Was it the requirement to speak English to ATC?

I heard they were asked to not go on strike anymore

Do you think Delta is having second thoughts now?

And when will this employee group ever be satisfied. The only thing worse for AF is for it to be employee owned. That would be a riot!

Who can blame them? It's spring, good picketing weather. A chance to get a head start on that summer tan.

it is absolutely common and fair if you speak german and/or french to call the lady "hostess". http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Not every language/culture relates the word "hostess" to *Red light districts". http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

the association of the swissair flight attendants is called VSAH "Vereinigung der Swissair Air Hostessen".

This entire non-sense is about the 35-hour work-week.
