The FAA is expeced to announce later today new guidlines for airlines to use confidential reporting to trck and reduce routine emoloyee errors. The growing aviation safety campaign seeks to identify and analyze data regarding mistakes that may cause accidents.
US airlines and the ATA are aassembling a new industry database of safety info and is increasibgly using flight data recorders to help track minor errors. This actually stems from the earlier initiative that began at AMR in '94.
The bottom line is that anonymous data from confidential sources will soon be made available industrywide.
