(increse baggage liability) And I think UA too, and probably others. Anyway...just an FYI

ALASKA AIRLINES INCREASES BAGGAGE LIABILITY LIMIT

SEATTLE -- Alaska Airlines today announced that it has increased the domestic U.S. liability limit for lost or damaged baggage from $1,250 to $2,500 per ticketed customer traveling within the domestic United States effective for travel which begins today.

The increase follows the recent implementation of Alaska’s "It’s About You" customer commitment plan.

That plan is an outgrowth of the pledge by the nation’s airlines to Congress and the traveling public, which included support for an increase in the baggage liability limit.

"It’s About You" contains detailed information about how the company will accommodate the customer in situations related to fares, ticketing, special needs, delayed or overbooked flights, changes in travel plans, luggage handling, mileage awards, and travel partnerships.

Some of the enhanced services are a new 24-hour guaranteed fare, expedited cash ticket refunds, and more amenities such as a complementary hotel stay, meal or the new Alaska AirCare Kit in the event of a delay or overbooked flight. The Alaska AirCare Kit contains a phone card, a snack certificate, and a choice of a Mileage Plan credit or discount off future travel.

A full copy of the plan is available at all Alaska Airlines ticket counters as well as via the Internet at www.alaskaair.com. (http://www.alaskaair.com.)

Alaska Airlines serves 42 cities in the Western United States, Canada and Mexico. Recently, readers of Travel & Leisure magazine voted the carrier the "World’s Best Domestic Airline," while readers of Condé Nast Traveler voted the carrier the best major U.S. airline.

I only wish this was due to the concern of carriers that we might not be covered. Actually it was a DOT mandated change as noted previously:

Yes I am aware it was mandated...(why else would all the airlines be scurrying to do this) LOL

What I find amusing is that airline press releases sound like they are doing us a favor, when it is actually required now. When I saw the DL news article, I said,"Gee, that's nice of DL. I wonder how many will follow my Delta's lead." Had I not read FT in the days that followed,I would have never known that the FAA requires this now.
