Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - Should I get their credit card?

I live in Charlotte, NC which means I never see an Alaska plane. I need to get a corporate credit card in addition to my corporate AMEX card and have narrowed it down to Alaska and US Air Visa cards.

The reason that Alaska is appealing is that they seem to have a lot of partnerships with other airlines. I can't tell if you can transfer miles to hotels, but being able to transfer to AA does seem intersesting.

In my wallet, I already carry:
United Visa
Platinum AMEX
Starwood AMEX
Green AMEX

I never charge on the green so I don't know why I even have it. The plat AMEX is for business, the Starwood is for personal and the UA Visa is for personal when the Starwood card isn't accepted.

Anyway, any thoughts on my decision?

Dingo,

I have a platnium Alaska Visa. The only reason I still keep is is for the $50 companion coupon, which I use each year; to use in cases where the Starwood Amex isn't accepted; and to earn the two points per dollar on my actual Alaska Airlines purchases.

If you can get another Starwood Amex, that would probably be your best deal. The Alaska card (and their new business card) is an okay deal. The companion certificate is quite nice with the platnium card, but if you're never going to see an Alaska plane, the companion coupon and upgrades won't do you much good.

Alaska has other airline partners that you can redeem with, but you can't actually transfer points to them.

Good luck!

I think that answers my question for me. I think I may go with an American Visa card actually based on their partnerships/alliances. Thank you very much for the info.

If you can take advantage of the $50 companion certificate (we plan to use ours to go to Mexico late this year), it's a great deal.

I suspect the same-day upgrade coupons are going to be wallpaper with the new (post-April 30) policy on upgrades. Looks like you'll not be able to upgrade at all if you're not either a Gold or given an upgrade coupon by one.
